Who we are
Lockar is published by Lockar Security, Sweden ("we", "us"). You can reach us at support@lockar.app.
The short version
- There's no Lockar account. We don't ask for your name, email or phone number.
- Your photos, videos, files, folder names and file names are encrypted on your phone. We never receive them.
- We don't have your pattern, your 12 recovery words or your encryption keys, so we couldn't open your vault even if asked to.
- There are no ads and no third-party analytics or tracking in the app.
- If you buy Lockar Pro, the purchase is handled by Google Play (or the App Store) and our payment provider, RevenueCat.
Information the app stores on your phone
Everything you add to Lockar stays on your device in encrypted form. This includes the files themselves, their names, folder names and dates. A secret used to protect your vault is kept in your phone's secure hardware (Android Keystore or iOS Keychain). Android's automatic cloud backup of app data is switched off for Lockar, so none of this is copied to Google by the system.
Backups you choose to make
When you make a backup, Lockar creates a single encrypted .lockar file. You decide where it goes, such as Google Drive, another app or a folder on your phone. The file stays encrypted and can only be opened with your 12 recovery words. Wherever you store it, that service's own privacy policy applies to the stored file.
Purchases
Payments are processed by Google Play or Apple, not by us. We use RevenueCat to check whether you have an active subscription or lifetime purchase. To do this, RevenueCat receives an anonymous app user ID, your purchase and subscription history, and basic technical details such as the platform, app version and country of the store account. This information isn't linked to your name or email by us. See RevenueCat's privacy policy.
Permissions the app asks for
- Photos and videos: to move items from your gallery into the vault and, if you choose, remove the originals.
- Camera and microphone: to take photos and videos directly into the vault with the private camera.
- Files: through the system file picker, only for files you pick.
Lockar uses these permissions only on your phone. Nothing it reads is sent to us.
This website
lockar.app doesn't use cookies, analytics or tracking scripts, and it loads no fonts or code from other companies. Our hosting provider may keep standard server logs, such as IP addresses and the pages requested, for security and to keep the site running.
Emails you send us
If you email us, we receive your email address and whatever you write. We use it only to reply and delete support emails when they're no longer needed. Please don't send us photos or files from your vault.
Children
Lockar isn't directed at children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect information from them.
Your rights
Because we don't hold personal data about Lockar users, there's usually nothing for us to access, correct or delete. For purchase records, contact Google or Apple, or email us and we'll ask RevenueCat to delete the data linked to your anonymous ID. If you're in the EU or UK, you can also complain to your local data protection authority. In Sweden, that's the Swedish Authority for Privacy Protection (IMY, imy.se).
Changes to this policy
If we change this policy, we'll update the date at the top of this page. Significant changes will also be mentioned in the app's release notes.
