Many vault apps put a lock screen in front of ordinary photos.
Copy the app's folder off the phone and the pictures open like any other. Lockar encrypts every file before it's saved, so its folder holds nothing anyone can look at.

How it works

Draw your pattern
Pick a shape on a grid of 25 dots. It's turned into the key that opens your vault, and it only works on your phone.
Write down 12 words
Lockar gives you a recovery phrase, shown once. If you ever forget your pattern, these words get you back in.
Move your photos in
Add photos, videos and files from your gallery, or shoot straight into the vault. Then remove the originals if you want.

Every vault app says "secure". Here is exactly what Lockar does to your files, so you can judge for yourself.

- AES-256-GCMEvery item has its own random key and is sealed in 1 MB pieces, so tampering is detected.

- Argon2id, 64 MB, 3 passesCombined with a secret kept in your phone's secure hardware, so a copied vault can't be cracked on a computer.
- Recovery
- 12 words, 128 bitsStandard BIP-39 words that unlock a separate copy of your vault key, on any phone.
- Names and folders
- Encrypted indexFile names, folder names and dates are encrypted too. Files on disk get random names.
- Wrong patterns
- 4 tries, then waits30 seconds, 1 minute, 5 minutes, 15 minutes, then 1 hour each.
- Leaving the app
- Locks instantlyThe key is wiped from memory. Screenshots are blocked and the app switcher shows a blank card.

No peeking
Screenshots and screen recording are blocked, and the recent-apps screen shows a blank card instead of your photos.
Clean up the gallery
After moving photos in, remove the originals in one step. Lockar also tells you where copies may linger, like the recycle bin or Google Photos.

Questions
Before you lock anything away.
What happens if I forget my pattern?
Tap "Forgot your pattern?" on the unlock screen and type the 12 words Lockar showed you when you set it up. Then you choose a new pattern. If you lose both the pattern and the 12 words, nobody can open the vault, including us.
What if I lose my phone?
Make a backup from the ••• menu. Lockar saves your vault as one encrypted .lockar file that you can keep in Google Drive or anywhere else. On a new phone, choose "Restore from a backup", pick the file and type your 12 words.
Do I need an account?
No. There's no sign-up, email or phone number. Lockar doesn't know who you are.
Can Lockar see my photos?
No. Your files are encrypted on your phone and never sent to us. We don't have your pattern, your 12 words or your keys.
Is Lockar on iPhone?
Not yet. Lockar is launching on Android first, and the iPhone version is in progress.
What happens if I delete the app?
Your vault lives only on your phone, so deleting Lockar deletes it. Make a backup first if you want to keep your files.
Does Lockar show ads or track me?
No. There are no ads and no third-party analytics. Lockar is paid for by people who choose Lockar Pro.
Lockar is in beta on Android.
